Stopper Hitch This is the same knot as the midshipman's hitch, which shows the reverse side of it, and it is used for transferring the strain from one rope to another. Used in yachts for attaching a tackle on to a jib topsail sheet, and stoppering a mainsheet whilst it is being belayed, etc.
